The 2018 Access of West Michigan Walk for Good Food was a great success! Over 750 walkers came out this year, and were able to raise over $43,100 on the day of the walk. The final donation total and team tallies will be available in the beginning of July. Thank you to all who walked and/or donated!
WHAT IS WALK FOR GOOD FOOD? This event enlists the community to raise awareness and financial support for 20 local and international nonprofits whose work ranges from community gardening projects, food system policy work, nutrition programs, food pantries, gleaning programs, food justice issues and community development initiatives. The event was previously called the Hunger Walk. HOW DID IT BEGIN? Four decades ago, members of the Grand Rapids community recognized an urgent need to fund organizations working to reduce poverty locally and internationally. The first annual Walk for Good Food was a way to publicly show support and provide financial resources for food insecure families. The response was remarkable and the success of the campaign was clear. Walking together as a united community to raise money for these nonprofit organizations was simple and effective. Since 1977, Walk for Good Food has involved thousands of individuals, businesses, and congregations who have collectively raised more than $6 million! This money goes to both local and international organizations who work to create a thriving food system in which all people have access to healthy and affordable food. |
